Peer Coach Jobs
STEM Support Services offers two peer-led programs: P2L (Peer Led Learning) and PAC (Peer Academic Coaching).
P2L Peer Coach: The P2L program supports a variety of STEM courses and has a team of Peer Coaches who plan and lead their own study sessions for students. Coaches attend class and meet with faculty to help with planning. Coaches submit a lesson plan each week, which includes the activities students will work on during each session. P2L sessions provide opportunities for students to collaborate with their peers and learn active study strategies. An ideal P2L session size is about 15-20 students, although this can vary depending on the class. Apply for Fall 2025!
PAC Coach: Peer Academic Coaching (PAC) is characterized by weekly one-on-one study sessions that support students in specific STEM classes. Each session will last one hour and will include practice or review of key course concepts. PAC coaches lead one-on-one academic coaching sessions to support students enrolled in the course. Coaches will develop rapport with assigned students, work with assigned students to build/improve study skills, attend monthly trainings, and keep up with similar administrative tasks on a weekly basis. An ideal PAC candidate shows empathy for students who find the coursework to be challenging, has strong communication skills, is friendly and professional in all interactions with staff and students, and takes initiative in communicating with staff and students as necessary. Apply for Fall 2025!

- What is the time commitment involved in being a Peer Coach?
-
Peer Coaches work 8-10 hours per week.
For P2L coaches, time each week is spent attending class lecture, planning and creating materials for sessions, leading sessions, and meeting with course faculty. Coaches also attend a few staff meetings throughout the semester.
For PAC coaches, time is spent working one-on-one with students who have scheduled appointments. Calculus I & II coaches may also hold drop-in hours in the MCLC (Math Collaborative Learning Center). PAC coaches attend a few staff meetings during the semester as well.
- Which coaching position is right for me?
-
There are two different Peer Coach roles – P2L Coaches and PAC Coaches. Both positions are great for developing your leadership skills, and all coaches receive training to prepare them for the role.
If you think you would enjoy creating lesson plans, collaborating with faculty, and leading group sessions, P2L would be a nice fit! If you prefer providing more one-on-one support to students, like tutoring, PAC is the position for you!
- Can I apply for both P2L and PAC?
-
The P2L and PAC programs use a common application, and you will be able to indicate which position(s) you would like to apply for. While you may apply for both, you would only be selected for one role.
