Writing and Library Help

Writing Center

The Writing Center is available for use by all current UVA students, regardless of year, school, or major. Consultants can advise on all stages of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, revision, argument structure, editing, and other concerns. Consultants can also help with any kind of writing: essays for classes, conference papers, dissertations/theses, cover letters for applications, personal statements, resumes, etc. The Center's services are free. Visit the website to learn more and schedule an appointment.

Library Resources

The UVA Libraries offer help searching for sources, locating books and articles, learning how to use technical equipment and software, and much more. Visit their website to learn more. This page includes a list of resources for undergraduate students specifically. Here are a few ways to connect with librarians:

Subject Librarians

Nearly every academic department at UVA has a dedicated librarian, and it’s that librarian’s job to help you with your research! Here's the list of subject librarians.

This is a chat service staffed by librarians when the libraries are open. It's not a chatbot. A live person will help you with your question. They welcome questions about library services, finding sources, and just about everything else!
